Mihael Furjan re-elected as the president of the Pharmaceutical Producers Association within the Croatian Employers’ Association
Zagreb, 16 April 2018 – Mihael Furjan, President of the Board of Pliva Croatia Ltd, has been re-elected president of the Pharmaceutical Producers Association within the Croatian Employers’ Association for (HUP-UPL) another one-year term.
The Pharmaceutical Producers Association includes a group of leading Croatian and international generic producers – Pliva, Belupo, JGL, Krka, Hospira, PharmaS, Farmal, Sandoz, Alvogen, and the Generic Producers Association as an associate member, all of whom account for nearly 100% of generic drugs production in Croatia and employ more than 5100 employees.
Although continuously faced with challenges on the domestic market, such as extended payment periods and permanent pressure on the prices of their products, HUP-UPL members operate responsibly towards their partners and suppliers, and provide patients with medicines on a regular basis. Members of the Association have been recognised by international partners, promoting positive investment climate and hi-tech advancement in Croatia.
HUP – UPL will continue to aim its activities at solving the problems of the Croatian pharmaceutical industry, positioning it as a strategic industry in the national economy and as a partner in the health system, thus affecting the creation of favourable business conditions on the Croatian market.
Mihael Furan said: “The pharmaceutical industry has been reconfirming its significance on the domestic market, by employing expert young professionals, and investing in research and development of new, high-quality drugs, as well as in improving the existing ones, for the benefit of Croatian patients and citizens in general. The health system needs to be rationalised, as the current system with too long payment periods is not sustainable in the long run. In the upcoming period I plan to encourage making the necessary changes, so that the pharmaceutical industry in Croatia achieves its full strategic potential.“
