Mihael Zmajlović, the Croatian Minister for Environment and Nature Protection, Visited PLIVA
On Friday, 28 June 2013, Mihael Zmajlović, the Croatian Minister for Environment and Nature Protection, and his associates visited PLIVA's production site in Savski Marof. The reason for his visit is one of the biggest investment projects in Croatia, with considerable resources invested in environmental protection.
The construction of the process gas treatment facility in Savski Marof has been completed, and the construction of the wastewater treatment facility and the expansion of the multipurpose synthesis facility, i.e. the facility for the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients incorporated into medicinal products, are underway.
All production facilities will have state-of-the-art equipment based on the best available technologies and chosen in line with the IPPC Directive and best practices in the European Union. This will all contribute to green production and reduce environmental impact. The investments in facilities and equipment intended for environmental protection exceed HRK 100 million.
Following a short presentation, Minister Zmajlović, accompanied by his hosts Tihomir Orešković, President of PLIVA's Management Board and Zoran Bunčić, a member of PLIVA's Management Board and Executive Director TAPI Croatia, made a tour of all three facilities.
"The facilities we have seen today are based on the best available technologies, which ensure the compliance with high environmental protection standards in production processes. The benefits for the local community will be two-fold: environmental protection and new jobs. I hope that this example will be a proof that investments in green production are not only a must and a cost, but also a smart investment in sustainable development", said Mihael Zmajlović, Minister for Environment and Nature Protection.
"I am proud that with USD 200 million PLIVA is one of the biggest investors in Croatia. In addition to investments at the Savski Marof site, PLIVA in Zagreb completes its new production facility for oral solid forms, which will additionally increase its capacities, already now mostly used for exports to all global markets, primarily the USA, Russia and the EU", emphasized Tihomir Orešković, President of PLIVA's Management Board.
„We have maintained a trend of increasing employment and, whenever possible, we give priority to local citizens. In this way PLIVA contributes to the development and prosperity of the local community", said Zoran Bunčić, a member of PLIVA's Management Board, adding that new environmental facilities built at PLIVA's site in Savski Marof ensure the compliance with the highest standards and prove that high-tech production, which respects environmental protection standards, is welcome in Croatia.
